24th November 2011
Everything is set for a fantastic St Francis MTB Challenge this Sunday 27 November
We encourage riders to register on Saturday between 4 and 6pm at the Cape St Francis Resort, enjoy a free optional short evening warm up cycle (5pm), a good meal at a great price, and stay the night at R135 pps! Right on the beach, pub, music, spacious grounds, pool etc. Maybe even some dancing … and then you can take your time in the morning ..
Otherwise register at St Francis Links from 6am to 7am, start at 8am.
We already have nearly 400 cyclists, and will almost certainly break our record of 444 cyclists, maybe even 500! It really is one of the premier sporting events in the East Cape. A great opportunity to cycle on routes normally closed to the public, and to support a worthy cause, the Sea Vista Disney Creche.
Note that the 70km route is in fact only about 60km. The missing 10km were going to be in the Thula Moya Nature Reserve, but this became complex from a marshalling point of view. See more info on the routes, especially the 70km route at www.stfrancissport.co.za
Please read through all the info below, especially regarding the course marking. Also the race poster, and the 35km, and 70km route maps.
There is some SAND! Yes, less than last year, but a coast does have sand! With some rain this week, we hope it will be slightly firmer, but there is the 100m stretch of beach where most cyclists will take the opportunity to use some other muscles. There is also 200m of rocky coast single track that most cyclists will walk.
Slower cyclists, please let faster ones’ through, especially slower 35km cyclists when the first 70km cyclists catch up … and they will!
Non-cyclists, come and enjoy watching the fantastic view, and the cyclists finishing up to the clubhouse from the 18th fairway, and taste some of the very well-priced snacks and drinks that will be on offer.
Please note:
Medical: an ambulance, and a 4-wheeler, and two medics (Private Care, Humansdorp) will be at the Start/Finish, at the Links Clubhouse. Emergency cell: 083 587 7556 .
Local Dr Jean Malan will be on standby: 042 294 0719
The routes will be well marked: Look out for arrow boards, plus white arrows marked on the ground with lime, and danger-tape or orange stickers always on your left. Green stickers: wrong route
