20 August: Mtb Fun and Spur Schools League

The weather was perfect for the 2nd leg of the Spur series.  There were a few muddy patches on the course which made the ride interesting and also caused the lap times to be slower with just over a minute compared to the first event.  Of the 100 riders who entered only 4 were able to complete 3 laps within the time limit of one hour.

The fastest two over 18 year riders were Rayno Peo (Sub Vet) 1st followed by Billy Teeton (Vet) in second place.  They were the only two who managed three laps.  The best lady riders were Andrea von Holdt (Sub Vet) 1st and Vicki Laing (Sub Vet) 2nd.

The best of 5 challenge were won by the schools riders.  The combined time of the best 5 schools riders was just over 3 minutes faster than the combined times of the over 18 years  riders!

The interest and level of XC style riding among the schools are definitely picking up in Port Elizabeth.  In the schools league Marco Joubert (u/14) recorded the fastest times with George Smith (u/16) a close 2nd.  They were the only schools riders who managed three laps in the allocated hour.   Sebastian Venter (u/18) finished 3rd.

The fastest girls riders were Dee Kotze in 1st place followed by Philani Nxawe in second.
